Jones Still Mulling a Sanders Bout
Tuesday August 12, 2003
Despite published reports to the contrary, Roy Jones Jr. has not yet formally committed to fighting Corrie Sanders on Nov. 8. Jones only wants the fight if (a) he gets paid more than the $10 million in guaranteed money that he received to take the WBA title from John Ruiz in March and (b) Sanders is not stripped of his WBO title. The WBO, in its infinite wisdom, is expected to strip Sanders if he fights anyone other than Lamon Brewster so don't hold your breath for a Jones-Sanders unification bout. Another option for Jones is to go back to 175 in order to reclaim his light heavyweight titles from Antonio Tarver.
