Mesi, Guinn, Gomez Take Next Step

With the heavyweight division wide open and desperately in need of a shot of youthful enthusiasm, HBO offered three bouts designed to help sort out the young (and not so young) prospects in the division. The card was entertaining but only Joe Mesi displayed any superstar potential -- scoring an impressive first round KO of DaVarryl Williamson. Critics will accurately point out Mesi still needs to be tested against world class competition as Williamson was far and away the weakest prospect among the six fighters on display.
