Freitas A Hit in Lightweight Debut
Tuesday January 6, 2004
Acelino Freitas knocked down Artur Grigorian four times to capture the WBO lightweight title by unanimous decision. Freitas, already the WBA and WBO junior lightweight champ, now has 10 days to decide which belt he wants to keep and defend. Either way, Freitas has a number of potentially interesting opponents from which to select -- but is probably too late arriving at 135 to secure a big money bout with Floyd Mayweather, who has already targeted 140 and beyond in search of bigger challenges (not to mention bigger paydays).
