Rare Rematch for Roy Jones
Wednesday March 31, 2004
After defeating Antonio Tarver in the closest fight of his career, Roy Jones Jr. was reportedly choosing between retirement and a huge money fight with Mike Tyson. So what did he choose? A rematch with Tarver. Tyson appears reluctant to continue his ring career, especially against anything other than a hand-picked opponent. And Jones wasn't quite ready for retirement. So Tarver seemed like the best option available. On May 15, Jones will try and erase the memory of his sluggish victory over Tarver last year in only the second rematch of his professional career. Jones only fought Montell Griffin a second time because he was DQ'd in the first bout for hitting Griffin while he was down. Warning to Tarver: In the Griffin rematch, Jones scored a vicious first round knockout in the most aggressive performance of his career.
