Jones Promises Better Effort in Tarver Rematch
Tuesday May 11, 2004
On Nov. 8, Roy Jones Jr. had the worst night of his professional career and still came away with a narrow victory over Antonio Tarver. This Saturday, Jones expects to give fight fans a performance more in line with what they've come to expect from the best pound-for-pound fighter of the past decade. Jones blames his November showing not only on having to shed weight to move back down from heavyweight to light heavyweight, but also on having to fight a man who really didn't interest him. Tarver still believes he won the first fight and will tell anyone who'll listen that he's going to be even better this time around. With much of the public anticipating a close, competitive bout, Jones shouldn't have any problem getting himself motivated ... and that could be very bad news for Tarver.
