De La Hoya, Hopkins Set for Tune Ups
Wednesday June 2, 2004
Oscar De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins need to take care of business on Saturday night to make sure that their Sept. 18 middleweight mega-fight comes off as planned. De La Hoya faces undefeated and virtually unknown Felix Sturm. Hopkins meets competent challenger Robert Allen for the third time. Neither man should encounter much difficulty against these relatively "safe" opponents but stranger things have happened in boxing. De La Hoya vs. Hopkins is the most widely anticipated bout in boxing and has some similarities to Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Marvelous Marvin Hagler -- pitting the sport's golden boy against it's blue collar superstar.
