Ward Advances to Gold Medal Bout

Once Andre Dirrell lost his semifinal bout, light heavyweight Andre Ward was left as the only remaining gold medal hopeful for the U.S. boxing team. Ward heard boos from the anti-American crowd but still managed to edge out a 17-15 victory over Uzbekistan's Utkirbek Haydarov. Ward will fight for the gold on Sunday against Magomed Aripgadjiev of Belarus. In other action, the Cuban boxing team continued to dominate the 2004 Olympics with seven fighters advancing to the finals.
