Foreman vs. Berbick? Say It Ain't So!
Tuesday January 4, 2005
If Trevor Berbick and promoter Tansley Thompson have their way, 2005 will see Berbick take on George Foreman for the Senior Heavyweight Championship of the World in Jamaica (or some other location in the Caribbean). Berbick is 51 and Foreman turns 56 next week. Foreman has made a habit of dropping hints that he plans to fight one more time and Berbick more or less fits the criteria for an opponent at this stage of Foreman's life: Berbick has some name recognition (a former belt-holder who outpointed Muhammad Ali in Ali's final fight) and is in Big George's general age demographic. Nevertheless, the bigger question of just what such a bout would prove remains unanswered ... and will likely remain unanswered because there is no point in such a bout and George appears much more interested in talking about fighting again than in actually getting in shape and taking some punishment. Let's hope it stays that way ...
