Mayweather Stops Bruseles in Eight Rounds

Sunday January 23, 2005
Floyd Mayweather made his case for being considered the world's best pound-for-pound fighter with a dominating eighth round TKO of Henry Bruseles in a junior welterweight (non-title) bout. As usual, Mayweather was just too fast and too talented for his overmatched opponent. Next up, Floyd's hoping for a June PPV bout with Arturo Gatti (assuming Gatti gets past Jesse James Leija next weekend). On the undercard, up-and-coming heavyweight Samuel Peter demonstrated explosive punching power in knocking Yanqui Diaz down five times before the bout was finally called off in the fifth round. Peter needs a bit more ring experience but his crowd pleasing style is very welcome in the sport's glamour division, which is desperately in need of some exciting new blood.
