Review: Contender Episode 4
Sunday March 20, 2005
Reality TV doesn't get any more real than the fourth episode of NBC's "The Contender". This week's bout was between Sergio Mora and Najai Turpin. Turpin is the contestant who killed himself in February, months after the show was taped. Knowing that he would soon take his own life makes it difficult to watch Turpin discuss his inability to trust people and his dream of giving his daughter a better life. Mora earns what appears to be a close decision over Turpin in what will undoubtedly be the most heartbeaking episode of this increasingly riveting series. Note: Peter Manfredo Jr., who was eliminated in episode one, was voted back by the remaining participants to replace Jeff Fraza, who had to drop out with the chicken pox.
