Wright Dominates Trinidad

Sunday May 15, 2005
Former junior middleweight champ Ronald "Winky" Wright won a shockingly easy twelve-round unanimous decision over Felix "Tito" Trinidad on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Wright, a southpaw, controlled the action with a stiff jab from the opening bell. Trinidad made no adjustments during the course of the fight and his corner failed to make a useful suggestion all night. Trinidad was deducted a point for low blows in the ninth but by that point the scorecards were irrelevant. The judges saw the fight as a near shutout (120-107, 119-108 and 119-108) and the punch stats certainly backed them up with Wright outjabbing Trinidad 185 to 15 and even connecting on more power shots, 77 to 43. Wright would seem to be the obvious challenger for the winner of the middleweight tile bout between Bernard Hopkins and Jermain Taylor bout on July 16. As for Trinidad, he has to decide if he wants to continue fighting or call it quits at the age of 32.

(1) Antonio Cruz-Castro says:

I think this was not a good fight. As a matter of fact this was one of the worst fights I have ever seen due to the fact that they never really fought. I understand that as a boxer you try to win without getting hit, but for the fans a good boxing match is one in which both fighters connect each other until one of them fall. in many cases non of them fall but if they connect each other on a regular basis, then it is a good fight and you know they are good fighters. Wright nevet got hit by Trinidad so I dont know what is he made of as a boxer. Can he take punches and stay standing like many others? this is the reason why there will never be another boxer like the “GREATEST” Muhamad Ali.
