Brewster TKOs Golota in 53 Seconds!

Sunday May 22, 2005
WBO heavyweight champ Lamon Brewster came into his fight with Andrew Golota as the least heralded of the four alphabet titleists. After destroying Golota in just 53 seconds, Brewster is suddenly a major player in boxing's glamour division. Brewster attacked from the opening bell and dropped Golota with a left hook. Golota got up but another left hook sent him through the ropes and nearly out of the ring. Once again, Golota got back up and once again, Brewster knocked him down with a left hook. At this point, referee Geno Rodriguez had seen enough and waved off the bout at 53 seconds of the first round. Brewster can now look forward to being included with the likes of Vitali Klitschko and Chris Byrd as the heavyweight division plods towards determining a people's champion. Golota, after an unprecedented three consecutive unsuccessful title shots, may have finally reached the end of his long, bumpy road as a frustrated - and frustrating - contender.
