Tyson, Cotto Highlight Busy Boxing Weekend
Wednesday June 8, 2005
Lots of televised boxing on tap for this weekend. On Thursday, it's Audley Harrison vs. Robert Davis and Kirk Johnson vs. Yanqui Diaz on FOX Sports. Harrison and Johnson should win easily but need to face stiffer opposition to move up the heavyweight ranks. On Friday, it's Shannon Briggs vs. Abraham Okine on ESPN2. Briggs is another heavyweight who needs to be more active if he wants to get in position for another shot at the title. On Saturday, fight fans have a choice. Showtime pay-per-view has Mike Tyson vs. Kevin McBride and Laila Ali vs. Erin Toughill. If Tyson can't beat McBride - possibly the slowest fighter in the world today - he really should call it quits. HBO counters with Miguel Cotto vs. Mohamed Abdullaev and Kid Diamond vs. Joel Casamayor. Great matchmaking as both fights could go either way.
