Gatti, Mayweather Talking Trash Before Clash
Tuesday June 21, 2005
Arturo Gatti vs. Floyd Mayweather is a fight which requires no hype. Nevertheless, both fighters have been talking trash in the weeks leading up to their Saturday night bout in Atlantic City, NJ. Mayweather has enthusiastically embraced the role of arrogant, obnoxious challenger, promising he will "dominate" and "punish" Gatti and calling Gatti a "paper champion" and a "C-plus fighter". Gatti, who is one of the most popular and likeable fighters in the sport, replied: "He's trying to convince himself he's going to beat me ... It sounds like he's terrified of me". As for the fight itself, Mayweather is the faster and more talented boxer and a nearly 4-1 favorite. Prediction: Gatti fans will be disappointed as their man will be outboxed from the start and stopped in the mid-to-late rounds.
