Rijker Ruptures Tendon, "Million Dollar Lady" Bout Canceled

The July 30 "Million Dollar Lady" bout between Christy Martin and Lucia Rijker has been called off after Rijker sustained a ruptured left Achilles' tendon during training. Rijker, 37, has already undergone surgery to repair the tendon. She is expected to be out a minimum of four months. No word yet on when or if the fight will be rescheduled. Rijker and Martin were guaranteed $250,000 each with the winner to receive an additional $750,000. Martin, also 37, is understandably upset: "I don't know how fast they can do a heart transplant, but maybe they can get a heart in there [while they're repairing her Achilles]. Then we can get the fight on."
