New Opponent for Cotto
Wednesday September 7, 2005
Rising star Miguel Cotto was scheduled to face Gianluca Branco on Sept. 24 on the undercard of the heavyweight clash between Samuel Peter and Wladimir Klitschko. However, Branco suffered a hand injury last week and left Cotto looking for a new opponent. Problem solved. Cotto will defend his WBO super lightweight title against Ricardo “Mochuelo” Torres. The good news: Torres, 25, is 28-0 with 26 knockouts. The bad news: He's only fought outside of Colombia once and you've never heard of anyone he's ever beaten. Oh well, at least we'll get another look at Cotto while we wait for him to take on a truly world class opponent ...
