Klitschko-Peter: Too Close to Call?
Wednesday September 21, 2005
Wladimir Klitschko takes on Samuel Peter in an intriguing heavyweight bout in Atlantic City, NJ on Saturday night. Klitschko was supposed to be the future of the heavyweight divison before being stopped by Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster. Now he's trying to prove he still has the stamina and the chin to be a champ. Peter is the latest "next big thing" in the heavyweight division. He has tremendous punching power and appears to have a solid chin. However, he has never faced a fighter of Klitschko's size, talent and experience. This fight will go a long way towards determining whether Peter is the real thing or simply another David Tua -- a heavy-handed puncher who gets exposed as one-dimensional (and lacking in world class conditioning) once he faces elite competition. Prediction: Klitschko is ahead on points for as long as it lasts but Peter eventually catches up to him and knocks him out. On the undercard, 24-0 Miguel Cotto defends his WBO light welterweight title against 28-0 Ricardo Torres. As they say, someone's 0 has to go. Prediction: Torres, in his first professional fight in the U.S., is in way over his head and gets stopped.
