Overweight Castillo KOs Corrales in Rematch

Sunday October 9, 2005
Jose Luis Castillo stopped lightweight champ Diego Corrales with a perfect left hook in the fourth round to avenge his defeat in their first meeting earlier this year. So Castillo is the new lightweight champ, right? Wrong! Castillo failed in three attempts to make the 135 pound weight limit. Nevertheless, Corrales agreed to go ahead with the fight but his title belts were not on the line. Each fighter received $300,000 for the first bout. This time, Corrales got $2 million and Castillo got $1.2 million (less a $120,000 fine for not making weight). Bottom line: Castillo wins the fight in dominating fashion. Corrales keeps his belts and invokes a rematch clause for a rubber match between these two warriors.
