Kendall Gill Gives Boxing a Try
Tuesday November 1, 2005
Kendall Gill played in the NBA for 15 years and made a lot of money. So why is he preparing for his third fight as a professsional boxer? He says it's because boxing was his favorite sport as a kid and he always wanted to give it a try. So far Gill has defeated two hand-picked stiffs and will take on another one on the undercard of the Nov. 19 Calvin Brock-David Bostice bout in Charlotte, NC. At 37, Gill is never going to be a world champ but he does appear to be taking his new sport seriously. The 6'-5" Gill played in the NBA at a lean 215 but has dropped down to 198 to fight as a cruiserweight. Another NBA player, Indiana Pacers' hothead Ron Artest, recently said he plans to retire from the NBA in two or three years and wants to give boxing a try. Maybe he can lure Detroit's Ben Wallace into a PPV grudge match ...
