Better Late Than Never?
Monday December 26, 2005
File this one under the category: Fights that definitely do NOT need to be made. Roy Jones Jr. and Bernard Hopkins have reportedly agreed to a March 11 rematch. Jones has lost his last three - two by knockout - and Hopkins is coming off back-to-back losses to Jermain Taylor. Both fighters have appeared reluctant to throw punches in recent outings, suggesting that could be a no-action snoozer. So HBO - in its infinite wisdom - plans to put the fight on pay-per-view. Jones won the first meeting by decision back in 1993 and - until recently - this would have made for a very interesting fight. Now it's simply a payday on the way out for two Hall-of-Famers who are clearly past their primes.
