Mayweather-Judah Still on for April 8

Monday January 23, 2006
In the old days, a tune-up fight represented a risk. If you lost the tune-up then you didn't get the big-money fight. Not anymore. First Erik Morales gets almost shut out by Zahir Raheem. No problem. Morales still gets his payday against Manny Pacquaio. Then Zab Judah gets shocked by Carlos Baldomir ... so his megafight with Floyd Mayweather must be off, right? Wrong. Despite the loss, Judah and Mayweather will still meet on April 8 in Las Vegas. However, both fighters will end up paying a price for the diminished stature of the fight. Mayweather will earn $5 million rather than the $6 million he had been scheduled to receive. Judah's purse has been reduced from $3 million to $1 million ... still not bad for a fighter coming off an uninspored, losing performance.
