Hearns Scores 10th Round TKO

Sunday February 5, 2006
It's not often that over 15,000 people show up for a meaningless fight between two unranked fighters in their 40s. Nevertheless, that's exactly what happened in Auburn Hills, MI when Tommy Hearns, 47, continued his "comeback" with a tenth round TKO over Shannon Landberg, 40. Hearns was completely out of gas at the end but still had enough left to force the ref to jump in and protect an equally exhausted and thoroughly outclasssed Landberg from further punishment. Hearns was leading 89-82 on all three cards after nine rounds. Since Hearns is unlikely to opt for retirement until he takes at least one more beating in the ring, a pointless rematch with 42-year-old Virgil Hill - who recently captured a cruiserweight belt - now seems almost inevitable.

On the undercard, Hearns' son Ronald scored a second round KO over Kirk Douglas to remain undefeated.
