Manfredo Looks Like A Real Contender
Tuesday February 14, 2006
The bout was delayed a day by the snowstorm but an adoring crowd in Providence, RI still turned out to support their fighter ... and Peter Manfredo Jr. made sure his move up to super middleweight was worth the wait. The Contender runner-up looked better than ever in scoring an impressive third round stoppage of 39-year-old Scott Pemberton. Manfredo knocked down the taller Pemberton twice in the final round and was on the verge of dropping him a third time when referee Dick Flaherty jumped in to wave off the fight. With Freddie Roach in his corner, Manfredo, 25, appears to be a much better fighter than the one that was showcased in The Contender series. A third fight with Contender winner Sergio Mora appears likely.
