Mosley Stops Vargas by 10th Round TKO

Monday February 27, 2006
The crossroads fight between former champs Shane Mosley and Fernando Vargas proved that neither fighter is shot. It also showed that a good bigger man doesn't always beat a good smaller man. Shane Mosley used his quickness to outpunch and outland Fernando Vargas in a close, competitive bout. In the end, it was the badly swollen left eye of Vargas that caused referee Joe Cortez to wave off the fight in the tenth round. Vargas protested but it was clear that he was unable to see out of the eye as Mosley hit him repeatedly with right hands. Mosley was ahead 86-85 on two cards with Vargas ahead 86-85 on the third. Mosley intends to move back to 147 and hopes for a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr.. Vargas intends to continue his career at 160.
