Calzaghe Dominates Lacy
Monday March 6, 2006
The boxing public that has been underrating Joe Calzaghe for years deserves him a big apology. In delivering a masterful shutout of previously undefeated Jeff Lacy, Calzaghe proved he deserves consideration among the top fighters in the world. Jeff Lacy proved something as well -- he's got a lot of heart and a great chin but he didn't belong in the same ring as Calzaghe on this night. In raising his record to 41-0, Calzaghe put on one of the most remarkable diplays of punching accuracy and ring generalship in recent memory. The judges' scores were indicative of the completely one-sided nature of the bout: 119-105, 119-107 and 119-107. A move up to 175 for a well-deserved big money fight against Antonio Tarver, Glen Johnson or Roy Jones might be next for Calzaghe.
