Briggs KOs Koval in Three

Thursday May 25, 2006
Shannon Briggs (47-4-1) continued his winning streak - now at eleven straight - with a third round stoppage of Chris Koval (23-3). Briggs, 34, is keeping busy against non-contenders in hopes of lining up a shot at one of the four reigning heavyweight titlists. Given the current state of the heavyweight division, Briggs would have to be given at least a puncher's chance against any active fighter. One potentially troubling sign -- Briggs weighed in for the Koval fight at a career-high 273 pounds ... he started his career at 205! Briggs clearly has KO power early but whether or not he's in any condition to fight effectively into the later rounds remains to be seen.

273?!?! Wow, I guess James Toney is having an effect on the division! How serious can he be about this at that weight?
