Castillo Fails to Make Weight, Fight is Off!

For the second time in three scheduled fights against Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo has failed to make the 135-pound lightweight limit. After Castillo failed to make weight for the rematch last October, Corrales decided to go ahead with the fight anyway and was knocked out in four rounds by the bigger, stronger Castillo. This time, Corrales has wisely decided he will not go through with the fight when he would again be at a significant weight disadvantage. While Corrales made the 135-pound limit, Castillo was 139½ pounds -- both on his first try and then again two hours later. Castillo faces a possible fine and/or suspension. Corrales loses out on what would have been a $1.2 million payday. Boxing fans lose out on what would likely have been a thrilling fight. If this trilogy is ever completed, it will have to be done at 140 pounds.

What a disappointment. I had just invited my neighbor over this morning and had the fridge well stocked with beer and the kids had also cooperated by going to bed early… only to find that there was not going to be fight! What is up with Castillo?!? A great fighter but with this behavior it is definitely going to influence his future fights. I hope Corrales will give him one more chance.
For Castillo a disappointment and lack of pride. Not been able to make the weight for this important event in his career. I hope that Corrales won’t give him another chance.
Gutted!!! Castillo has had his chance. He blew it, and should face a huge fine.
It is almost unbelievable that a professional “anything” would make that big of a mistake twice.I was a big fan of castillo but him not making weight twice has mad me look at other fighters for my champ. I dont think corrales should give him another chance.
I turned on Showtime at 9:20pm to catch the telecast. I figured out quickly that the main event had been cancelled, BUT the announcers failed to explain why or what the controversy was about, I waited and waited while Albert and Bernstein referred to the controversy and the cancelled fight but STILL failed to explain what was going on or why in fact the fight was cancelled. It was terribly frustrating. Only know have did I learn that Castillo failed to make weight AGAIN thanks ANDREW!!!!!
This could have been one of the fights of the year and this is very dissapointing. I still fell Corrales should give him another chance as it will be a big pay day for both and a fight that will help people remember both fighter
Dammit I’m gutted to hear this. Hope this fight gets made soon.
