Prince Badi Ajamu (25-3-1) came out aggressively and fought
Roy Jones Jr. (50-4) evenly for exactly one round. Unfortunately for Ajamu, the fight was scheduled for 12 rounds. The remaining 11 rounds were all Jones as the former champ used his quickness to land both head and body shots with pinpoint accuracy. Ajamu got so frustrated at several points that his strategy appeared to shift from winning the fight to getting himself disqualified. Ajamu blatantly - and repeatedly - hit Jones below the belt but the referee elected to take three points away rather than grant Ajamu a reprieve from his beating. When it was over, Jones had snapped his three fight losing streak with a unanimous decision: 119-106 on all three cards.
While Jones never really had Ajamu in serious trouble, it was by far the best he has looked in several years. Whether this was truly a return to form (and confidence) for Jones or simply a case of dismantling an overmatched opponent remains to be seen. However, based on the names Jones called out after the fight - Joe Calzaghe, Glen Johnson and Bernard Hopkins - boxing fans may learn exactly how much Jones still has left in his tank in the very near future . . .

HELL YA BITCHES ROY JONES IS BACK BABY!!! HAHA
roy jones is back.he aint done yet
who is ajamu? hopkins would have knocked him out
HOPKINS,TARVER,ECT WHERE WERE THEY WHEN JONES WAS KICKING ASS ? STYLES MAKES FIGHTS AND JONES CAN’T KNOCKOUT EVERYONE ,BUT CAN GIVE OUT A GOOD SPANKING. HE TOOK HIS LUMPS NOW SUPERMAN RETURNS “PLAYA”
Roy Jones was a great fighter in his weight class if does not fight heavy weights he can be great again that is what i think middle weight light heavy what did he he knocked out his opponets before the 4 round, but that was when he was fighting in his naturally weight
ROY JONES IS BACK and by far the best you seen in years not only is he getting older but still fast. HOPKINS cant stand a chance against ROY
Roy looked great on Saturday, and Ajamu was ranked in the top ten by several organizations, so obviously, Roy isn’t done. Glen Johnson and Bernard Hopklins both would have a tough time cathing Jones. Johnson’s victory over Jones, was more a product of Jones taking that fight only 4 or 5 months after his KO loss to Tarver. In my mind, Jones is pound for pound the best ever, but I hope and pray that he gets one more big name fight and wins it, to cement his legacy to the general public. Jones will beat hopkins and that fight WILL take place before the end of the year. Jones and Hopkins never had a rematch before, because they couldn’t figure out a way to split $20 million. I bet they could now.
Jones is back ? I think not ,I never even heard of this other guy wait till he fights a recognizable name before he announces hes back ,hes back but just back for a paycheck.
Roy WAS good but never great…. Now he’s just okay…. He was all about speed and head movement, never had the basic boxing skils(as a pro)He did get robbed of the gold I’ll give him that…. He should of stayed at heavyweight…
to rickrock, how dare you call roy ok. This man was undefeated for nearly 50 fights. dominated the sport for a decade. Roy jones no matter what he does in the future was pound for pound the best fighter in the world. Maybe you missed all the fights that I didn’t but roy was the man. He won titles in four different weight class’s and made history in 2003 by being the first middleweight champ to take a heavyweight in over 100 years. Learn your history man!!!
i say jones was the best of his time although he has been on a lossing streak ever since he got knocked out by tarver, if jones and hopkins fight and jones wins then people could finally call him the best pound for pound fighter but until then he still hasnt proved himself
roy jones time has come, he needs to hang it up before he gets hurt. he does’nt need a payday and if he does he should have managed his money better.if he quits now he still goes out on top then he could do some promoting or something because he sure cant commentate
Former Fighter , Glad to see the best is back . Congradulations Roy.Go Get Em
Roy Jones is a legend, I think he will have another 2 fights and retire.
hmmm….. ROY ALREADY BEAT HOPKINS ONCE, when they were younger and faster. Roy is stil young and fast, bernard is an old man… What other fighters do you know that ring magizine named fighter of the DECADE??? not mike, not lennox… Think about that.. O and the guy roy just beat had the IBF light heavyweight championship.. Just because u know nothing about boxing except what u watch on sportscenter doesnt mean he’s a nobody, it mean you should be quiet until you know what you are talking about… ROY IS THE MAN!!!
Jones was a great champ, there is no doubt about that. imo though he is a spent fighter now. Even though he was classed as p4p best it still has to be taken with a pinch of salt, why didnt he fight benn, eubank, collins etc?…cos hes the same as pbf mayweather, wants that unbeaten record with decent fighters he thinks he can beat on it.
roy is the best there ever was.he is the s***and all em haters would’nt say nona that in front his face or get in the ring wit em.
I just don’t get it. To say JR is not one of the best boxers to ever step into the ring is ignorant. Obviously those who say that know nothing of boxing. The next thing you know they’ll be saying Ali wasn’t one of the greatest of all time. We all know better, well those of us that know boxing do. Let his record speak for itself. This was a man who was 49-1 before losing his 3 in a row from bouncing around in different weight classes to defend his “multiple titles.” Those loses were nothing more than flash victories for boxers with smart managers who knew when to schedule a fight with JR. It’s a testiment to a boxer to win one title. What does that say about a man who had more gold than in the vaults at Ft. Knox. Stop disrespecting a man who has made history. Love him or hate him he is one of the greatest boxers ever. Period.
Muhammad Ali was 31-0 at his first loss
Sugar Ray Leonard was 27-0 at his first loss.Antonio Tarver was 16-0 at his first loss.George Foreman was 40-0 at his first loss.Mike Tyson was 37-0 at his first loss. Roy Jones Jr. beat all of these marks set by great fighters and didn’t lose until fight #51!! He is arguably the greatest fighter of all time.
roy was great. but now all but totally faded. he is dreaming if he thinks he can beat calzaghe.
Roy Jones is a very good to excellent fighter not “Great” he never had to fight a Sugar Ray, Marvelous Marvin, Duran, or Hitman Hearns. Roy is a product of fighting very average fighters in an era after all those great fighters. He’s more like a Larry Holmes not an Muhammad Ali.
he is the one of the greatest in his class.where were tarver, hopkins and glen when this guy had all the titles on his body.they all like the british guy in heavyweight who surfaced at the end other greats’ careers.
Roy is the KING…the best pound-for-pound fighter I’ve ever seen…and I followed the careers of Ali, Ray Leonard, Hagler, Foreman, Tyson and DeLaHoya
I WAS AT HIS FIGHT IN BOISE AND THOUGHT HE DID REALLY WELL AND LOOKED COMFORTABLE IN THE RING. I HOPE HE IS BACK!! HE NEEDS TO MAKE ANOTHER BODY HEADBANGERS CD TOO.
so question. now that it has been nearly three months later what is roy going to do next. time is not on his side. is going to fight or not. and if so it has to be a big name fighter. so anyone can tell me what’s up with roy now?
hey i love roy and i still am a loyal fan but who is he fighting…..calzaghe should be his target make that name shine again by dispatching him via KO only if he takes him the distance then he should retire…and where the hell is his RJ (sort of austin powers mojo)…there’s always lacy to warm up against..till then everyone else he fights is just spa sessions to me…..
jones was and still is one of the most talented fighters in the history of the sport, he never got meet the likes of hagler and leonard in the ring, but they never met him, and we dont question their greatness. He got lazy like alot of fighters do, and he paid the price, he shud fight calzaghe,he’s already done hopkins.he may not be the fighter he once was, but he is still better than 99% will ever be
FOR ALL YOU OUT THERE THAT DONT WANT TO GIVE THE MAN THE CREDIT HE DESERVES GO ON TO YOUTUBE AND WATCH THE 15 MINUTE HIGHLIGHTS OF HIM JUST BRUTALLY SPANKING THE **** OUT OF ALL HIS OPPONENTS THEN MAKE YOUR DECISION
hell roy jones been back, everyone lose in their life, but roy jones is still the best pound for pound fighter in the world!!! oh yeah didn’t roy jones beat the s*** out of hopkins already…..ha ha ha
a FIFTY FIGHT WIN RECORD IS ON THE MONEY i DONT CARE WHO DID IT AND i THANK rOY IS STILL THE BEST, YOU GOT TO LOOK AT THE RECORD OF THOSE WHO BEAT HIM.????????????
Best P4P fighter in the world!! that says it all
why does everyone say that the people that he was fighting wasnt’t good..because the only thing that matters is that he went 50 fights without losing..everyone else has their chance to have a perfect record for that many of fights…and unless you go back every fight and can put a judgement on what level rj is at and what level the oponent is at then u cant say nothin..like i said the only thing that matters is the record 50 and ZERO
yo junior is great roy is the best evry he did make a comeback it was great if u want to see how great roy (junior) is then go on youtube and type roy jones and watch the videos
I would just love to see him come back and fight anyone especially Calzaghe or Hopkins I just dont want to see him go out with his last win over an amateur and I do agree that I still think he is the best.
rocky marciano 39-0 never beatin
I just met Roy Jones Jr at our family reunion. I was impressed with how he managed himself. I hope the best for him. He appears to be aware of the fighter he will face and is taking everything into consideration. He deserves the respect that goes with every great fighter. Age effects everyone’s body this is for sure, but when it comes down to it he is a class act.
I think Jones’ greatest performance was the first Tarver fight. He was completely drained from all the weight loss and his eyes displayed the fatigue of his body. Yet he fought on with PURE heart. Pure heart and really did show to the world that he is a great fighter. The second fight with Tarver – the knock out really put more on Jones then simply a loss. He was never the same after that. Still we should never forget just how great this supreme athlete was and is. I believe one more great fight to complete his chapter, win or loose he will always be great.
First off let me say that Roy Jones jr. is the the greatest boxer I have seen since Muhamed Ali,from being an all around boxer with the speed, strategy, defense, showmanship, confidence, heart and the love for the sport. Just being A supreme athlete Roy Jones belongs in A special class with all the great people we have ever witnessed on the planet, not taking anything from anyone else because there is alot of great boxers that once existed. And remember,You have to give credit to anyone who makes an effort at anything!
roy needs to beat tito then tarver then johnson then hopkins then mayweather and then he will def. be labels the pound for pound greatest
Check it! All ya non-boxing fans out there, who only looks at somebody getting knocked and not paying attention to the history a fighter posses is smoking cauliflower. Ali been knocked out before, Floyd Patterson, Joe Louis, Jack Dempsey, Sugar Ray Robinson and Leonard all had knocked out before in they’re career some more than others. But nonetheless they are boxing legends; just because Roy had a slump doesn’t mean he’s washed or too old. People said the same thing about Ali when he won the title in Africa (If ya forgot, some may not know about that you can watch the movies though and get learned). Chavez won the title when he was beyond his prime, along with Foreman and others. Roy is still hitting, to see him fight Hopkins will be too easy, nothing to prove. To see him fight Winky, or Jermaine Taylor, THAT will make headlines that Roy is back. The showboating, knock you out with any hand, 7 year winning streak Roy. Man, ya need to go back to school, only a few know the sport of boxing, some comment already; but all ya that says Roy is done, step in the ring and find out how long it took him to knock you out…..10 seconds maybe, if that.
HELL YEAH ROYS BACK TWO N A ROW TITOS NEXT
to all the haters and in the words of the p4p best ever:
“y’all musta forgot!”
who’s next…Tito, then B-hop (twice), get revenge on Glen Johnson (like he did with Montell), reclaim from Tarver, perhaps Delahoya or even down some to Mayweather…retire and shut up all those that ever hated…
note – rjjr will retire as a true champ no matter waht happens now…
rjjr is a thing of beauty inside the ring. name a boxer who fights in orthodox and southpaw stance perfectly, name one who can knock opponents with his left or right hand, name one who can brawl with the best of them or fly like a butterfly like ali did. and who els can fight intensely without having to leave the showboating behind…only jones jr. does…got almost all his fight in my collections..
roy jones e nai dobriq tehni4en burz naprao perfecten s
