The Contender: Wright Shuts Out Eason

Wednesday August 2, 2006
In the third episode of season two of The Contender, the gold team proved shrewd matchmakers in calling out Andre Eason to take on Walter Wright. Eason appeared to be in less than stellar condition and was completely outclassed by the quicker, slicker Wright. Eason showed heart by climbing off the canvas from a first round knockdown to finish the fight on his feet, but it likely took some nifty editing on the part of ESPN to make the bout seem even mildly competitive as all three judges scored the fight 50-44 for Wright.

Hints continue to be dropped that next week's match will feature Vinroy Barrett against a supposedly "scared" Grady Brewer. Why Brewer - who has fought Jermain Taylor, Peter Manfredo Jr., Kelly Pavlik and Sechew Powell as a pro (all losses) - would fear Barrett remains a mystery.
