Contender Doubleheader Completes Round One

Thursday August 24, 2006
"The Contender" reduced the field to eight fighters with a double-header edition to complete the first round. Former IBF junior lightweight champ Steve Forbes won a unanimous decision over a competitive Freddy Curiel. Also, in an action-packed brawl, Nick Acevedo held off Jeff Fraza to earn a unanimous decision. Both men suffered cuts in what was Fraza's first - and last - Contender bout despite appearing in both seasons of the series (he came down with a case of chicken pox in season one).

After eight fights, the Blue team leads the tournament with a record of 5-3. Who do you think will emerge as The Contender? Vote in our exclusive poll.
