Forbes Advances on The Contender

Wednesday August 30, 2006
Former super featherweight champ Steve Forbes became the first fighter to reach the semi-finals of season two of The Contender with a five-round split decision over Nick Acevedo. Acevedo and Forbes - winners of the final two bouts of round one - were fighting on short rest and it showed in what was, nevertheless, a very entertaining bout. Acevedo won the first round but seemed to punch himself out after stunning Forbes in the third and was outhustled over the final two frames. One judge gave the fight to Acevedo 48-47 but the other two saw it for Forbes by the same score. Next week's episode features the "grudge" match between Cornelius Bundgrage and Walter Wright.

A total of seven boxers remain in contention to be crowned The Contender. Who do you think is going to emerge victorious? Vote in our exclusive Contender poll.
