Barrera Tops Juarez Again
Monday September 18, 2006
Marco Antonio Barrera (63-4) retained his WBC super featherweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Rocky Juarez (25-3). When these two met in May, Juarez gave Barrera all he could handle in an entertaining brawl (with a controversial decision) that left fans calling for a rematch. The rematch produced another Barrera victory -- only this time by a wide margin in an uneventful, tactical bout which drew boos from the capacity crowd and left no one calling for a third meeting between the two. Juarez failed to deliver on his promise to be more aggressive in the rematch and Barrera was content to simply outbox Juarez round after round. The final scores - 117-111 and 115-113 twice - suggest a closer fight than the one fans witnessed.
The next logical fight for Barrera - who still maintains that he intends to retire next year - is a rematch with Manny Pacquiao ... assuming, of course, that Pacquiao gets by Erik Morales on Nov. 18.

Barrera booed, what do fans want unskilled sluggers? Credit Barrera with a masterful performance against a worthy opponent.
What a lousy, uneventful fight with hardly any action. This fight should ensure a Pacquiao-Barrera title fight. I still firmly believe Barrera will run away and try and outbox the Pacman to no avail. Come the 6th rounds and up, Barrera will not be able to withstand the left hook, the right cross and overhand right of Pacquiao, both lethal and powerful. This will close the chapter of dominance of Pacquiao over the great Mexican boxers of this past decade, all by knockouts.
