The comeback of Evander Holyfield (40-8-2) gained some momentum when the former heavyweight champ scored a narrow twelve round unanimous decision over Fres Oquendo (26-4) in San Antonio. While Holyfield dropped Oquendo early in round one and also hurt him in rounds six and seven, he was unable to finish him off and - at times - appeared unable to pull the trigger and fire punches when he saw openings. The awkward Oquendo had his moments and believed he did enough to earn the decision. The judges felt otherwise with all three giving the fight to Holyfield by scores of 116-111, 114-113, 114-113. Without the first round knockdown, the otherwise uneventful bout would have been scored a majority draw. With the victory, Holyfield's improbable quest for a fifth heavyweight title remains alive . . .

I told you he’d win. I knew he would. But NO ONE LISTENS. Bunch of CRITICS. You focus so much on his age you don’t give him a chance.
HOLYFIELD DOMINATED EVERY ROUND,EVEN IF IT WAS DONE CAUTIOUSLY OQUENDO WAS SCARED STIFF ,DIDNT DO ANYTHING TO TRY TO WIN A ROUND THE COMMENTATORS RUIN THE QUALITY OF THE FIGHT -JARED D’AMATO
ok people the holy warrior is proving he is serious about his comeback but he is always serious……beating up that last unknown was entertaining beating a credible was encouraging now the true test lies within a top5 fighter…however the way the heavies are now days (boring, wack, waste of money) it is quite possible for him to pull this minor miracle off…i live 10 minutes from him in atlanta and well that is insiration enuff to keep fighting that landscape bill alone…unless he’s a cheapy and cuts it his self via push mower….until he avenges his loss to a former middle weight by the name of toney….i like most…is waiting for the car-wreck to happen…..CRASH….this takes not from his accomplishments…rahman, mercer, bowe, lewis, tyson, foreman, stewart, douglas, he’s never ducked anyone….a true Champion even when he not wearing a belt…..plus achampion in the bedroom what iz it like 25 kids he’s got 3 more than me….my hero
Holyfield is truley the most dominating, champion of my lifetime. Evander is probably the only champion since Larry Holmes who could have boxed in any era. I saw the oquendo fight and I am a huge Holyfield fan. He has just been in too many wars and if he fight the big Russian goof, the Russian wins. Holyfield can’t pull the trigger anymore, and his trademark combinations are gone. I believe in God and Jesus Christ, those will be the only two reasons why Holyfield wins.
I have watched Evander fight since he was in the olympics and I will say this, Evander Holyfield is one of the most underrated fighters of all time. There are not many heavyweight fighters who would have beaten him in his prime. Until he was way past his prime, he beat every fighter he faced (he was robbed in the rematch with Lewis). He deserves every bit of credit he deserves for what he has done in and out of the ring. He is and will always be the Real Deal!
I will agree with Bob that Holyfield was robbed in the Lewis rematch, but let’s be honest; Lennox got robbed WAY worse in the first fight. If he had won the first one, they would have given Holy the 2nd, making for a great rubber match. I am a Holy fan first and foremost, but our guy is way passed his prime. I hope he doesn’t get hurt.
