Duddy, Moorer Win; Paez Jr. Upset!
In Hollywood, Florida, former heavyweight champ Michael Moorer (49-4-1) won a dull ten round decision (100-88 twice and 99-89) over Sedreck Fields. How dull? Fields had points deducted for holding in the fifth and ninth rounds. On the same card, previously unbeaten Jorge Paez, Jr. (12-1), the son of flashy Jorge Paez, was stopped by journeyman Ramon Guevara (8-11) in the final round of their scheduled four rounder. Paez was knocked down in the fourth and Guevara never let him off the hook, prompting the referee to halt the bout.
Remember, tomorrow (Saturday) night, there are two separate cards from which to choose: Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Juan Manual Marquez headline the significant one for $44.95. The competing card, featuring Evander Holyfield vs. Vinny Maddalone, seems insignificant but don't be shocked to see Holyfield get yet another title fight if he looks good. The fight should be on basic cable but will, apparently, only be available on CN8, Comcast cable systems and webcast live on CN8.tv (see if you can make any sense of this press release regarding the Holyfield fight). Note: The Holyfield bout is also on SportsNet New York. Check local listings for availability.
