More Controversy for Zab Judah

Sunday April 15, 2007
Even against a completely overmatched opponent, Zab Judah (34-4) can't avoid controversy. In his first fight since serving a one-year suspension for his role in the melee in his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr., Judah was facing journeyman Ruben Galvan (27-11-2). All Judah needed to do to preserve a big payday with Miguel Cotto on June 9 was to win.

Judah didn't win ... but he still gets the payday. Judah went right after Galvan from the opening bell and may have been on his way to a first round stoppage when a big cut opened up on the left side of Galvan's head at the hairline. The ring doctor looked at the cut and advised the referee to stop the fight. Replays were inconclusive as to whether the cut was caused by a punch or an accidental elbow but it the ref ruled it was not from a punch so the bout was ruled a no contest. In a punch stat rarity, Galvan was credited with landing zero punches!

It was inconclusive. I could not tell if it was a punch or an elbow from a follow thru punch.

A home town ruling? Whatcha smoking? Galvan is from Hammond, IN. A long way from Mississippi.

But in any case, Zab should not have been in the ring with this guy. Judah needs to fire his promoter. I think this hurt him more than it helped. Now, he is going again a very active Cotto with over a year of ring rust.

Good Luck, Judah. You are going to need it.

I think of Judah and the first thing that comes to mind is throwing a stool at big ref Jay Nady and putting his glove under Nady’s chin. Nady could have snapped him like a bug. He got beat, and beat bad after winning the first round by a then great champ in Kosta Zu. Fell down on his own accord. Rules are rules. Then the cheap shot during instructions with Baldimor, a hard right hook to his thigh? Then this fight the rerun clearly showing an elbow causing a cut on a much inferior out of shape opponent? Cotto will destroy him. It will be a matter of time as in the Mayweather fight. Front runner Judah clearly made Floyd look like an amatuer only to lose focus by the 5th round. If he is still around for the 5th round with Cotto he may end up like Paulie except does he have Paulie’s heart to take a beating?

I agree, Judah is a joke and the sooner he fades from the scene the better it will be for boxing and probably himself.

judah is a great fighter, maybe even one of the best ever…but he does some of the dumbest thing’s to just kill his career as a boxer.when he fight’s cotto it will be an easy fight for him if he can stay focused and box him and not get caught with a big punch.

Judah is a week boxer if you compare him with Cotto. He is not going to win against Cotto. He would have to take back all the sh** he is saying when Cotto breaks his mouth and more than that.
