Today - July 14, 2007 - offers so many intriguing bouts that every boxing fan should be able to find something that interests him (or her!).

Current champs Kermit Cintron, Antonio Margarito, Fernando Montiel and Steve Molitor are in action. You've got rising stars like Paul Williams, John Duddy, Andre Ward, Amir Khan, Alexander Dimitrenko and Chris Arreola. Past-their-prime former champs Roy Jones Jr., Arturo Gatti, Derrick Gainer and Vassiliy Jirov are all looking to make another run at a title shot (or at least a big payday). And, if that's not enough, Anthony Hanshaw, Nicky Cook, Matt Skelton, Luan Krasniqi, Tony Thompson and fan favorite Alfonso Gomez from The Contender TV series will also be in the ring today!

Check out the complete boxing schedule to see who's fighting who and which bouts are being televised. As usual, some bouts that should be on free TV are on pay-per-view while many others are not being televised at all. Some things never change . . .

I agree, a great day of boxing. I have to say I was surprised at the Gomez/Gatti outcome. I thought this would be a real barn-burner as Gomez lacked the punching power to put Gatti down and he comes from the same iron warrior fabric that Gatti is made of. The fact that “Thunder” was so decisively shut down shows that he’s way beyond his prime… now if only the Jones, Jirov, Holyfield and all the other fighters looking for one last payday would come to the same conclusion.

I was one of the few people that expected Gomez to win, but I was impressed by the way he won. Gomez packs more of a punch than people give him credit for. At least 4 out of his first 21 fights were at short round middleweight fights in a weight class he does lack power and he has had more short round fights at the begining of his career. So his power can be deceiving at welterweight at which he may not be a one punch knockout specialist but he does carry a good punch. Alfonso may not be extremely gifted athleticly but he is a very skilled boxer with a good chin with loads of amateur experience and a strong strength of scheduled fights for a upcoming pro. Gatti is Gatti, he was just as much of a shot fighter as when he fought Mayweather and Baldomir in which both fighters got loads of credit for their win. Gomez should be given credit as well for a dominating win that is better than what Baldomir/ Mayweather could do before. Chavez/ Gomez would be a great fight. Also, great win for Cintron and the Margarito/ Williams fight was closer than HBO led everyone to believe; I saw it as a draw or close decision for Williams. Williams has a lot of pitty patt punches.
