Malignaggi Outpoints Ngoudjo to Retain Title

Sunday January 6, 2008
Paulie Malignaggi (24-1) was far from spectacular but he still did enough to win a twelve-round unanimous decision over Herman Ngoudjo (16-2) to successfully defend his IBF junior welterweight title for the first time. Malignaggi won the early rounds as he outboxed Ngoudjo but brawled more than necessary in the middle rounds -- getting cut over the left eye in the fourth and wobbled in the seventh. This was a fight that was almost guaranteed to go the cards and, when it did, all three judges favored Malignaggi: 115-113, 116-113 and 117-111.

Also in action this weekend were Glen Johnson, Lovemore N'dou, Allan Green, Zahir Raheem, Brian Viloria and both Anthony and Lamont Peterson. For complete results, CLICK HERE.

Unanimous!! Don’t think so….Love Boxing but how partial can judges be when the boxer from NY..2/3 are from Jersey.Yes the 3 rd is from US also (this was a World title fight NO?) + the Ref. is from Jersey. ah..forgot the fight was in Jersey also..Come on, why the hell would anybody agree to those conditions going into the fight. I believe this is the 2nd time the boxer manager agrees to such conditions. (Beyer/Luca in Germany was also a joke) Yes you need to give the advantage to the champion if close but the scoring on this fight is a joke and really another sample of why boxing needs help.

Malignaggi is extremely overrated. Who has he beaten? Cotto ran through him like it was nothing. He has no knockout power and barely has any knockouts. Who was this bum he faught? And the scorring was still semi-close? I can’t wait until he fights some real competition like Rickey Hatton or maybe even Pacman if he moves up. They’ll destroy this guy with ease. Freakin’ bum.

I agree with Rodo, the unanimous decision was ridiculous. I expected it to be a draw at most and even that woulda been because of all US judges.Ngoudjo clearly won the fight

Mr Eisele, you dont look very professional when you say that Malignaggi “succesfully defended” his title. Ngoudjo has been stollen by 3 partial judges. That’s all

Paulie seems like a guy desperate for one big payday and he almost said the same thing in the post fight interview. He talked about the damage to his hands and his head, but he does have heart, or is it chutzpah. His performance was all run away, no pop, and lots of grab and hold. The judges were clearly biased or filled out the score cards before the fight and went to a movie. I hope they did, because if they had stayed, they would have been very bored. I don’t think either fighter did enough to win. So does that mean it was a draw? It was one boring fight. I am not sure if Paulie deserves that pay day, but I do know it would be real hard for me to ever puy a ticket to one of his fights.
