Poll: Pavlik vs. Taylor II. Who Will Win?

Wednesday February 13, 2008
On Saturday night, Kelly Pavlik takes on Jermain Taylor in Las Vegas (on HBO-PPV) in a rematch of their Sept. 29 thriller in which Pavlik stopped Taylor in seven rounds. The fight will be contested at 166 pounds so Pavlik's WBC and WBO middleweight titles will not be on the line.

Prediction: Taylor took no confidence-building fights after getting knocked out by Pavlik, so it's likely to still be fresh in his mind when the bell rings to start this rematch. Accordingly, Taylor will want this to be a boxing match and will likely be somewhat tentative to engage. Pavlik, on the other hand, will be fighting as a champion for the first time and will believe he can knock out Taylor again. However, he also must remember that he was almost knocked out himself earlier in that same fight. Taylor will likely be ahead on points as long as the fight lasts, so his job is to outbox Pavlik for 12 rounds. It could happen, but Pavlik - who may be even stronger at 166 - is too heavy-handed and accurate for Taylor to stay away from for 12 full rounds. Pavlik by late TKO.

Who do you think will win? Pavlik or Taylor? Vote in our poll.

Wow! It is to be at 166 and no belt on the line? Who had this idea. It tales away from the kicker of the fight and might be a set-up for fight III if Pavlik loses, which is not likely especially at 166. But if Taylor loses, there will not be a Pavlik-Taylor III but Tayor can still make a case that he is competitive for some belt–there are so many these days.

I don’t see Taylor doing much. A long time ago I wrote that he was making a big mistake not taking at least one tune-up and two would have been better. He was a badly beaten fighter in the first fight and he really needs, in my opinion, a confidence builder and he would need to prove to himself that he can still win, never mind take a good shot.

The fact that it is not a title fight takes away from the interest. I figure Pavlik will take Taylor out by round 5 or 6.

How did Hillary get an autographed pair of kelly’s gloves? I can’t believe my man “The Ghost” could be in that (B-words)corner. I hope both Taylor and the Clintons get knocked-out. Good luck Ghost

Taylor has all the tools to beat Pavlik except the most important one - heart. He is slick, very talented and probably takes the garbage out for his mother, but this is BOXING.

Pavlik is a throwback to the good old days, and no amount of scientific dieting or body building will save Taylor.

Pavlik is just too heavy handed and too hungry - Pavlik in 9

I WOULD THINK PAVLIK IS TOO HEAVY HANDED FOR MOST TO HANDLE . I THINK THIS TIME TAYLOR WILL BE SMARTER BUT STILL WILL BE CAUGHT AND GO DOWN HARD , JUST LATER ON . I CANT BELIEVE THERE IS NO TITLE ON THE LINE ?
