Valuev Shuts Out Liakhovich

Saturday February 16, 2008
Former champ Nikolai Valuev earned another shot at the WBA heavyweight title by shutting out former WBO champ Sergei Liakhovich in Nuremberg, Germany. The 7-foot Valuev used an effective (and very long!) jab to keep Liakhovich at a safe distance. There were no knock downs in the one-sided bout. The shut out (120-108, 120-108, 120-107) puts Valuev in position for a rematch with Ruslan Chagaev, who defeated the giant Russian by decision in April.
