Poll: Vazquez-Marquez III. Who Will Win?

Wednesday February 27, 2008
Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez split their first two meetings in a pair of the most competitive and memorable bouts in recent memory, so there's no reason to think the rubber match - this Saturday, March 1 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA - will be any different. The WBC super bantamweight title will be on the line but belts are basically irrelevant when two of boxing's top ten pound-for-pound fighters square off.

Marquez took the first fight (TKO 7) and Vazquez won the rematch (TKO 6) in battles that were reminiscent of the classic Marco Antonio Barrera-Erik Morales and Arturo Gatti-Micky Ward trilogies (Gatti and Ward clearly weren't elite fighters like Barrera, Morales, Vazquez and Marquez but they matched them in heart). The fight is available on regular Showtime (not PPV) so don't miss it.

Prediction: Vazquez and Marquez are so evenly matched it's almost too tough to call. Similar in age, size and ring experience, Marquez is a bit more technician while Vazquez prefers to slug. However, both are willing to stand toe-to-toe and trade and have had to deal with cuts and swelling on numerous occasions. So who's going to win? Vazquez by TKO 8 based on the edge in physical strength - as well as (slightly) improved elusiveness - he displayed in the rematch.

Who do you think will win? Vazquez or Marquez? Vote in our poll.
