Phillips Edges Spinks in Upset!
Friday March 28, 2008
Verno Phillips, 38, is now a three-time champ after defeating IBF junior middleweight champ Cory Spinks by split decision. Spinks, 30, disappointed a hometown crowd of 8,874 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis by not being more aggressive and being outworked by Phillips - a 6:1 underdog. In the end, the judges were more impressed with Phillips' power punching than they were with Spinks' hand speed and movement. The scores were 116-112 and 115-113 for Phillips and 115-113 for Spinks.
On the undercard, super lightweight Devon Alexander remained unbeaten with a twelve-round shutout over Miguel Callist.

I was suprised to see a close decision go to the challenger. I had Spinks barely pulling it out but it is good to see a veteran like Phillips get a big win.
AHHHHHHHH HAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! HE FREAKIN LOST! I LOVE IT!!!
Hopefully now he learned you actually have to punch back to win fights!!!
