Poll: Who Should De La Hoya Fight Next?

Wednesday June 11, 2008
Let's assume for the moment that Floyd Mayweather Jr. really is retired. Or at least retired for long enough that Oscar De La Hoya - still the biggest attraction in boxing - has to find himself another opponent to make rich. The Golden Boy's superstar status, not to mention the fact he's also his own promoter, means he can get a fight with just about anyone he wants. So who should he choose?

While De La Hoya has fought his share of hand-picked opponents (Steve Forbes and Ricardo Mayorga) in recent years, he also hasn't shied away from more difficult bouts in which he is the underdog (Mayweather and Bernard Hopkins). The likely group of potentially attractive opponents range - in size - from super featherweight Manny Pacquiao all the way up to smaller middleweights like Sergio Mora and Winky Wright.

Who do you want to see De La Hoya fight next? Vote in our poll.

My first response to : ” Who should De La Hoya fight next ? ” was nobody. He has had some tough fights and risks serious injury after been boxing for so long. Father Time takes a toll on every boxer everyday. Oscar has so little to gain and so much to lose.

my response to you, oscar should fight the winner of margarito /cotto fight.
give the fans something in return for supporting him during all these years. instead of fighting shot fighters.and then he should just fight a rematch against tito trinidad, for the gran finale of his career, that fight will be huge payday for both and a huge gift for boxing fans from the la hoya. and then retire for good.

Oscar I know a lot of people dont think so but you could left jab Cotto ta death and you know it. Dont let him go to the body and its an easy fight and a superstar knotch and payday in your belt. Sick’em Oscar!

Oscar should fight Cotto or Tito. That will be a great fight. Mayweather quits because of possibly fight againt Cotto. Cotto will destroy him

De La Hoya should fight a Puerto Rican. De La Hoya should not fight Puerto Rican rival Tito because this fight is way too late. A re-match will not prove anything since they are not in their prime anymore. De La Hoya needs to retire with a huge win! What better opponent than the current Puerto Rican young and rising star Cotto.

Oscar,is one of the greats of all time.Every one should remember the fights he took knowing the risks going above and beyond .With that said I think he should consider a safe exit in his career Trinidad being one and maybe Margarito.I think with his cat like jab and 45 as he calls it you can still pull it off Oscar. Thanks, for the memories let’s do it 1 more time!Texas,75110
