Rahman-Toney II Result Changed
Wednesday July 30, 2008
A fight that initially appeared to be a no decision but then was ruled a TKO is now officially a no decision. The confusion began when Hasim Rahman told the ringside doctor he couldn't continue after the third round of his July 16 rematch with James Toney due to a cut above his eye. The cut was the result of an accidental headbutt so Rahman figured he would escape with a no decision and avoid having to fight the remainder of the bout at a disadvantage. After much confusion in the ring, the fight was ruled a TKO win for Toney. Now, following an appeal from the Rahman camp, the California State Athletic Commission has switched the result to a no decision. It's relatively unusual for decisions to be changed on appeal but it seems the commission got this one right ... though it's not a terribly important reversal as there was no title at stake and neither fighter is much in demand these days.

The writer who SAYS Rahman-Toney II is “Unimportant” possibly does have it “half right”. But, his statement is INCOMPLETE. BOTH fighters are VERY IMPORTANT in the whole heavyweight scope. I predict that Toney will go on to WIN the Heavyweight title before he is finished. If he doesn’t WIN the title, I will be SHOCKED!&RAHMAN CAN DO “what ever he chooses”, too. The “group” this writer works for is “amazeing” what they have produced but, Boxing Fans remember one thing: “About.com” has FLOYD PATTERSON RATED all time No 4 Heavyweight. “Lets here it for Floyd Patterson” I am not one to diminish that MAN! Floyd Patterson PROBABLY was in one of the most “unique” Heavyweight eras ever (-very unusual flavor, that’s all I can say…-) But: RATED “4th best”. These people -need- a little bit of psychoanalis for their personal lives, that’s all their is to that one (”great laugh”, though!).
“I predict that Toney will go on to WIN the Heavyweight title before he is finished.” That is joke. Klitschko, Povetkin, Chagaev, Valuev have too much skill for that fat Toney.
Sounds like John Wilkinson might have been hit in the head alot.
Toney & Rahman are VERY IMPORTANT in the whole heavyweight scope? You left out Butterbean.
John, I appreciate the feedback (as always) … just curious where you have me (or someone else from About.com) rating Floyd Patterson as #4 heavyweight all-time? I also admire what Floyd accomplished as an undersized heavyweight but I don’t rank him among the top ten heavyweights. In fact, in one poll we did evaluating ESPN’s All-Time Top Ten Heavyweights, Patterson wasn’t even offered as an option as a “glaring ommission”. In any case, thanks again for the feedback!
tONEY WILL ONLY BE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP ON THE SCALE aSFOR fLOD PATTERSON BEING #4 HEAVYWEIGHT NO WAY, MAYBE #144
What’s with the disrespect of James Toney he actually beat Rahman who quit because of a scratch over his eye…Toney for all his faults has never been a quitter i remember the nasty gash he recieved fighting TIm Little and begged for one more round and went out and KO’D Little despite the blood pouring down his face and into his eye(Youtube it)…2ndly he moved from 158lbs to 200lbs+ and is breaking down naturally bigger stronger guys….yeah he at times looks lethargic and well he aint exactly body beautiful but when on his A-Game he wins…Rahman fought Holyfield barely fazed Evander..and was getting beat..Toney beat the breaks off Holyfield and actually stopped him the last time he was stopped was by Riddick Bowe…not TYSON(STILL MY FAVORITE) not LEWIS nor anyone else come close to even making a claim of almost stopping Holyfield….and for Joe who made the comment that a Klitchko would beat Toney…i highly doubt it they do look good against average comp…buttarum a vet like Toney would break them down…and stand firm on that…Toney is a throw back fighter capable of much and so much more…
It’s very unfair to compare the Holyfield of Hollyfield vs Lewis, Tyson, Rahman, etc with the Holyfield vs Toney fight. Holyfield was all washed up and had shoulder injuries when he fought Toney
