Klitschkos Challenge Valuev

Monday November 3, 2008
The Klitschko brothers, Wladimir and Vitali, hold all but one of the recognized heavyweight titles ... and they want that one too! Nikolay Valuev, the only top ten heavyweight that's taller and heavier than either Klitschko, currently holds the WBA belt.

Vitali Klitschko, 37, recently returned from a multi-year layoff/retirement to stop Samuel Peter for the WBC title. In need of an opponent, Vitali has challenged Valuev. However, Vitali also made it clear that he would be fine with younger brother Wladimir getting the shot at Valuev's WBA belt. Wladimir Klitschko, 32, currently holds the IBF and WBO belts and hasn't lost since 2004.

All three heavyweights have somewhat uncertain schedules for the remainder of the year. Valuev is slated to fight on Dec. 20 with Evander Holyfield and Andrew Golota as possible opponents. Wladimir Klitschko is scheduled to fight on Dec. 13 with Hasim Rahman and Oleg Maskaev the leading candidates to get the title shot. Vitali Klitschko's calendar is wide open. Stay tuned ...
