Ricky Hatton, never a big fan of defense, had lots of the trouble with the last slick boxer he faced - Floyd Mayweather Jr. Malignaggi, however, is no Mayweather -- Pretty Boy is a slick boxer who, when he elects to, can also punish an opponent.
Hatton, knowing he didn't have to worry about any incoming punches simply walked through Malignaggi. Hatton hurt Malignaggi several times but never knocked him down. Malignaggi is not the quitting type, but 28 seconds into the 11th round his trainer, Buddy McGirt, had seen enough and threw in the towel to end the one-sided affair. All three judges had Hatton ahead 99-91 at the time of the stoppage.
Punch Stats: Total Punches: Hatton - 124-of-516 (24%), Malignaggi - 91-of-342 (27%). Power Punches: Hatton - 99-of-377 (26%), Malignaggi - 25-of-133 (19%).
Hatton earned $2.5 million for the fight. The win may set him up for an even bigger payday against the winner of the Dec. 6 fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao. Malignaggi received a career-best $1 million.

Malignaggi didn’t deserve this fight. He got his butt whipped last time out by Ndou and the judges threw him the decision, and he has been overrated for years. Ricky still leads with his head, but hits hard for a 140 guy, and Malignaggi got a million and was whining about his corner quitting, when he quit in the ring after the third round. Love to see Ricky take on a real fighter, like a rematch with Colazzo.
Malignaggi is “Charlie the Tuna” and we are not looking for “good-looking” fighters, we are looking for fighters who fight good (sic). A Ricky Hatton/Manny Pacquiao would be a fight to see on Showtime or HBO. Boxing needs to give the fans a great non-PPV fight and this would be it.
Paul Malignaggi may do better as a boxing coach, or perhaps take up acting, although he has survived very well against second tier fighters without any punching power to speak of. He has proved an intelligent ring general, but this is not good enough when a fighter approaches the top of the heap.
This was a fight that had to happen, but should not have happened. Pauly has long been “a legend in his own mind,” and he ran into one tought legend with fists and a will to win. By the end of the second round and into the third, Pauly was like a spoiled whining kid with the look of one beaten fighter. It was in his own interest that his corner wisely stopped the fight and saved him from too much punishment. Sure, he doesn’t have much of a punch, but it was the determination of Hatton that beat Pauly into submission. Hatton is one heck of a fighter and does not disappoint.
Fat-Chance Hatton-Pacquiao Non-PPV – ever. (Got-to-be-kidding? Such would be “Super-Fight” status);Where Donald Wolberg get his suggestion Paulie Malignaggi a “legend in his own mind?” (Because he has -CONFIDENCE- -entering- that he can “take” R. Hatton??). Against Ndou (Malignaggi)- “what” do the experts -Say?- Ndou-Colazzo?? Antietan – “Duh!” (Hey, “147″, isn’t that Welterweight??)
