De La Hoya Not Retiring?
Wednesday December 31, 2008
Oscar De La Hoya looked old and lifeless as he took a beating from Manny Pacquiao. He's earned enough in the ring during his career that he certainly doesn't need to keep fighting ... and he's got plenty of business interests to keep him busy. Oscar even hinted at retirement in his post-fight comments after the Pacquiao bout. So he's retiring, right? Wrong! Reports indicate the Golden Boy is contemplating a May bout with 22-year-old Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the 100,000 seat Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
De La Hoya-Chavez Jr. has a built-in storyline as De La Hoya scored TKO wins over Julio’s father, Julio Cesar Chavez, in 1996 and 1998. Plus, De La Hoya doesn't want his last bout to be a one-sided blowout loss ... and - as bad as he looked against Pacquiao - Oscar would have a decent shot of defeating the still raw and relatively untested Chavez Jr.

WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT DOES HE WANTTO PROVE NOW. HE LET US DOW WITH PACMAN NOW WHAT!!!!
I think the kid can beat him!
I think Oscar should retire from the kicking, scratching, slapping, hair pulling and name calling game.He doesn’t stand a chance against Julio “Sissy”Chavez Jr. anyway.
Hmmmmmmmm hes becoming more and more of a has-been, cmon oscar its just turning into a beatdown for cash! As much as i love him, he needs to retire… otherwise hes going to ruin quite a fine career with sh**ty bouts that were unnessacery and unwanted by fans!
Ugh! He hasn’t won a BIG fight since Fernando Vargas (2003??). He can only damage his legacy. Why?
I think oscar need a better trainer to tell him to move his head he dosn’t move his head anymore that is why he got beat I think he still can beat anybody but I think boxing is all about money.
Oscar should retire. the trainer he had for his last fight Nacho is one of the best out there and even he agrees that he can no longer pull the trigger. If Oscar wants to get paid being young boxers punching bag then i will still watch
agree Oscar needs to retire. As was previously stated he lost with one of the greatest trainer in the fight world in his corner. As much as I hate to see him go because of all that he has done in bringing in new life to the sport. It is his time; I believe though he wants to go out with a big win in a major fight. Also he knows that his name still draws crowds.
Not as much as it once did but he is still a primary name. Hopefully he retires before his name becomes tarnished with the reputation of a man who should have left the sport long ago instead of being remembered as the champion he was. I believe he will hang around for a few more fights then fade away quietly.

De La Hoya didn’t let anyone down in his display against Pacquaio, that’s absurd.
He came up against a younger, hungrier, faster fighter, who was very well trained to exploit his obvious weaknesses, namely his weight drain and his inability to cut off the ring.
Roach deserved a lot of credit for the diplay, as he knew how to beat De La Hoya, and Pacquiao had the tools to take the training on board.
De La Hoya, at his true weight may not be a spent force, however I feel it’s unlikely he challenge the top pound for pound fighters again. You can’t blame the guy for wanting one last fight, who would want to bow out with a demolition liek the one against Pacquiao?
Good article
I will believe Oscar can win if his brother says so
i think dela hoya should retire now…he’s boxing is over…he has prove a lot..he must learn that he badly lost to paquiao, his fans and his supporters still renounces him as one of the greatest boxers…his legacy will never vanish…he will still remain a legend…its just that his time is over…
I hate to say it, but, De La Hoya, you’ve been washed up for years now. Lil Manny just exposed you. Also my man Roy Jr. Hang them gloves up dawg, you were supermazn but the Cryptonite known as time has overtaken you. You will always be pound for pound in the real boxing publics eyes RJ~ Peace!
Oscar has blown boxing greatness for big
paydays. He has wasted so much talent with
long delays between fights and lack of
focus on his boxing, He coulda been great.
