Troy Ross Wins Contender Title

Thursday February 26, 2009
Canadian crusierweight Troy Ross scored a fourth-round TKO over Ehinomen "Hino" Ehikhamenor to capture "The Contender" title in the fourth season of the boxing reality TV show. With the win, Ross joins Sergio Mora (season one), Grady Brewer (season two) and Sakio Bika (season three) as Contender champs.

Ross caught Ehikhamenor with a series of shots that hurt Hino and forced him - however briefly - to turn away from Ross. Referee Steve Smoger, seeing Ehikhamenor hung up on the ropes and not in position to defend himself, jumped in to halt the bout at 2:00 of the fourth.

Ross, 33, won three of his four Contender series bouts by KO and could quickly move into title contention in a division that could desperately use an exciting fighter with some name recognition.

This was the worst season of all The Contenders.Almost painful to watch. At least when it was on ESPN it gave the impression of having a little credibility.
