Chris John Pulls Out of Juarez Rematch
Tuesday June 23, 2009
What's with all the fights getting cancelled/postponed/rescheduled due to health issues? WBA featherweight champion Chris John is the latest sidelined fighter (joining David Haye, Floyd Mayweather and, briefly, Ruslan Chagaev), pulling out of his June 27 rematch with Rocky Juarez due to an "unspecified blood problem" that caused him to faint while training. In their first meeting, on February 28, John and Juarez fought to a rare, and somewhat controversial, unanimous draw.
If an opponent can be lined up on short notice, Juarez will still fight on Saturday. HBO, however, must approve the opponent in order for the fight to be included on its live broadcast, now headlined by light welterweight prospect Victor Ortiz vs. Marco Maidana.
