Gatti Death Ruled Suicide; Wife Released

By , About.com Guide   July 31, 2009

Follow me on:

The Arturo Gatti case has taken another unexpected turn with his death - originally considered a homicide - now ruled a suicide and his wife - originally jailed as the only suspect in the case - now released from prison in Brazil.

What exactly changed? It's hard to say. The lead investigator, Paulo Alberes, could only confirm that police had determined the case was a suicide but offered no new details. The judge who ordered the release of Gatti's wife, Ildete Verissimo de Lima, went as far as to write that the investigation "excludes the possibility of murder".

Really? So this case went from murder as the only possible explanation to excluding even the possibility of murder?

Gatti's wife, Amanda Rodrigues, believes the former champ may have been suicidal because he was afraid she was going to leave him. The couple engaged in a loud, public argument the night before Gatti was found dead.

It appears as if fight fans may never learn what really happened in Gatti's hotel room in Porto de Galinhas, Brazil on July 11. If Amanda Rodrigues is truly innocent, then justice was done when she walked out of prison as a free woman. If not, then the 23-year-old former stripper just got away with murder.

This turn is not expected. This is what happens when you have a notoriously corrupt police force involved with a hot looking, ex-stripper piece of trash (like Gatti’s wife is).

Absolutely there were some “favors” exchanged.

What a disgrace to his memory. I hope that murdering bitch gets hers some day.

Dean, would you care to back up any of your comments? Starting with, say, the notoriously corrupt cops, and then the ‘trashy’ wife, since yoy appear to claim to have personal knowledge of these, ahem, facts?

I have met Gatti and his wife. Dean, you are a little harsh. We had a drink and talked (I’m a writer), and she seemed like a very nice person. I could see how Gatti fell in love with her.
Basically, this is a horrible thing. Gatti was loved by many, many people. He was among the most courageous fighters.. Respect should be paid. (At least until all the facts are in.)

The Broads always get off. I say involuntary manslaughter at a minimum, she lied to him, faked being in love, flipped the script, she was about to use the North American Court System to aquire 1/2 or more of Gatti’s assets and Gatti hopelessly in love threw up his hands and checked out of all this shyt! Give her 50 years or the chair, whatever works…..
