Updates on Deaths of Gatti, Forrest

From Andrew Eisele, About.com GuideAugust 5, 2009

Follow me on:

Last week, authorities in Brazil ruled the July 11 death of Arturo Gatti a suicide. Gatti's family remains skeptical so they had Gatti's body exhumed so that authorities in Quebec could perform a second autopsy. The second autopsy, as expected, has not ruled out homicide in the ex-champ's death.

The coroner's office in Quebec has asked authorities in Brazil to share their files from the initial autopsy and the local police investigation. Don't expect this case to get conclusively resolved any time soon, if ever.

In contract, progress is being made in the Vernon Forrest case as Demario Ware, 20, has turned himself in and been charged with murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Ware, who has been in and out of jail on various charges in the past, was out on bond when Forrest was shot. Police do not believe Ware was the gunman but, so far, he's the only person who has been arrested in the case.
